According to German outlet Bild, Timo Werner will return to RB Leipzig when his loan spell with Tottenham Hotspur expires at the end of the season, as the North London club are unwilling to sign him on a permanent basis.
Only table-topping Liverpool have scored more goals than Spurs in the Premier League this season, and yet, not one of the 42 Ange Postecoglou’s team has scored in the English top flight was the work of Werner. His only strike of 2024/25 so far came in the fourth-round victory over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Furthermore, Postecoglou has fired some extremely scathing words at the expense of the 28-year-old forward recently, and there is truly little chance for the club to pay the agreed sum of €12 million to secure his services long-term in the summer. There is no way for him to return to Leipzig in January either, as the Bundesliga side do not wish to pay his salary at this point.
Unwanted at both ends of the deal, Werner will return to Leipzig in the summer, with 12 months left on his contract at the end of June.
