Werner will not leave Leipzig for free – Rangnick

Timo Werner will not be allowed to leave RB Leipzig by wearing his contract down in 2020, according to manager Ralf Rangnick.

As reported by Liverpool Echo, the Germany international has an offer of extending his contract on the table, one that would see him earn double the amount he receives now, and the Bundesliga club have therefore made it clear that they wish the striker to remain at the club for a long time yet.

However, Werner hasn’t put pen to paper, and there are strong indications that he will not do so at all. A report in the German media claimed the player who turns 23 next week had agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, but there has been no contact between the clubs.

Rangnick stressed that Leipzig haven’t been approached regarding Werner by anyone, and he expects the clubs interested in his services to get in touch in the summer. The club won’t make a decision before then.

Apart from Bayern, Werner has been linked with Liverpool, with forward Sadio Mane and former Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita keen on seeing him move to Anfield.
