Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Stefan Wessels is preparing to hang up his gloves.
Wessel has conceded that his decision to put his family first and base himself in Osnabruck effectively ends his professional career.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper spent last season with Danish outfit Odense Boldklub but has opted to return to his native Germany to build a home.
“In football you never know what will happen,” Wessels told Sport-Bild.
“But I am well aware of the consequences of my decision and I know that it will likely mean the end of my career.
“I deliberately opted for the family. I’m only open to clubs for whom I would not have to change my location of Osnabruck.”
Wessels, who was capped once by Germany’s Under-21s, made six Bundesliga appearances for Bayern over a four-year spell with the first team.
He also enjoyed spells abroad with Everton and Basel.
