West Brom in bid for Almeida

Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola understands that West Bromwich have submitted a bid for Benfica defender Andre Almeida.

New Baggies boss Pepe Mel is a keen admirer of the player and he is eager to lure him to the Hawthorns by the end of the month.

According to A Bola, the Premier League side have offered to take the player on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Having seen little playing time this season, the 23-year-old is reportedly very interested in a proposal from England, but it remains to be seen if his current employers will feel the same way.

Despite starting his career as a central midfielder, Almeida has almost entirely been used as a full-back of late and he has only made five league appearances this season.

With the player also hoping to make Portugal World Cup squad, a move to West Brom would certainly prove beneficial for him.
