Burnley have had a £16m approach for striker Jay Rodriguez rejected by West Bromwich Albion, according to the Guardian.
The Clarets – who booked their place in the third qualifying round for the Europa League with an after-extra-time victory over Aberdeen on Thursday evening are looking to bolster their squad late on after failing to sign a single player so far this summer.
Having begun his career with at Turf Moor, Rodriguez is among a number targets the club are keen to sign before next Thursday’s transfer deadline though they will have to put in an improved offer.
During his time with the Lancashire club, the twenty-nine-year-old racked up one hundred and twenty-eight appearances in all competitions, scoring forty-one goals.
He had a similarly prolific spell with Southampton before move moving to the Hawthorns last summer where his seven league goals were not enough to help keep the Baggies in the top flight.
