West Brom to move for World Cup keeper

West Bromwich have opened talks with Belgian club Lierse as they plan to sign Japanese keeper Eiji Kawashima.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper helped Japan reach the last 16 stage at the 2010 World Cup by conceding just two goals in four games.

The Baggies have been tracking the experienced keeper and they have now opened negotiations with his club Lierse.

“West Brom asked if we’ll discuss a move for Kawashima. We said he can go if they make us a good offer,” Lierse technical director Herman Helleputte said.

Roy Hodgson already has Scott Carson and Boaz Myhill at his disposal, as well as veteran Dein Kiely, but it looks that he is not entirely happy with his options.
