West Bromwich Albion are set to sign former Wolverhampton Wanderers star Bakary Sako, according to Sky Sports. Sako was most recently with Crystal Palace and was on a good run of form because sustaining an injury back in February, and despite being offered a new deal with the Eagles, he turned it down.
Manager Darren Moore wants to be certain that he’s fully fit before giving the green light for the deal, with Sako impressing him during his 10 day trial.
Sako is often viewed as an underrated yet inconsistent star in the realms of the Premier League, but arguably his best days came down in the Championship with Wolves. He played a key role in the success of the Dicko/Afobe/Sako trio, which almost led the Wanderers to the playoffs.
West Brom are hoping to get the deal done before they come head to head with lowly Preston North End this weekend. Ironically, the Baggies will play Crystal Palace in the League Cup tonight.
