(GSM) – West Ham are reportedly keen to sign Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy. The Hammers have been hit with an injury crisis and are thus short of options in attack.
McCarthy’s future at Blackburn has been uncertain for a while now with the player failing to become a regular starter in the side under Sam Allardyce.
The 32-year-old is reportedly keen to move away from Ewood Park. The South African striker wants to return to first-team action as soon as possible in order to boost his chances of playing in this summer’s World Cup with his country.
West Ham joint-chairman David Gold has admitted McCarthy is a January target for the Hammers.
Asked about the club’s interest in McCarthy, Gold told Sky Sports News, “Yeah I think that he would be a good acquisition if that can be achieved.
“It is possible but all strikers that are available as we speak are possible.
“It is a question of can we do business.”
