West Ham have joined the race to sign Bolton full-back Marcos Alonso, the Daily Mirror has suggested.
The Hammers had their chief scout watch the Spaniard in Saturday’s victory over Burnley with a view of making a summer bid for the player’s services.
West Ham are desperately short of options on the left flank and have recently signed former Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz on loan from Wolfsburg.
They are, however, now looking for a long-term solution and believe Marcos Alonso has what it takes to succeed at Boleyn Ground.
The only problem is that the player already has an offer from Serie A giants Fiorentina on the table.
Alonso’s deal at Reebok Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season, and he is highly unlikely to extend his stay in Lancashire.
The Real Madrid graduate has made 11 Championship appearances for the Trotters this season, and scored 2 goals in the process.
