West Ham United and Inter Milan submitted unsuccessful bids for Espanyol’s Marc Roca, according to an exclusive report by Sport.
It was the Premier League club who called first and presented their offer, but Espanyol made it perfectly clear that they weren’t interested in discussing anything and referred the Hammers to the €40 million buyout clause in the midfielder’s contract. The offer was withdrawn and West Ham did not return with another this winter, but a few other reports claim they are considering another attempt in the summer.
Inter came second and were, apparently, more persistent in their plans, but Espanyol still held firm, unwilling to part ways with Roca halfway through the season if they can help it. Therefore, their response to the Italian side was the same as it was to the Londoners: €40 million or there’s nothing to talk about.
As neither team to offer that much, Roca, one of Espanyol’s best players this season, has stayed put for the present.
