West Ham United have reignited their interest in signing Southampton striker Rickie Lambert, according to the Mail Online.
The Hammers, who are currently above the relegation zone on goal difference, are keen to add extra fire power to their squad despite the return to fitness of Andy Carroll, who made his first appearance of the season in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Cardiff City.
Lambert has appeared in all of Saints’ Premier League games so far this season, scoring six goals, but the South Coast club would consider doing business if the price is right.
Southampton are currently dealing with chairman Nicola Cortese’s resignation, while there is also doubt over the future of manager Mauricio Pochettino.
They travel to a resurgent Sunderland on Saturday lunchtime, looking for three points that will keep them in touch with the sides chasing European qualification, and Lambert is the 5/1 favourite to get the first goal of the game.
