West Ham have confirmed that captain Jarrod Bowen fractured his foot in their 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
Bowen played an hour against the Reds before being replaced by Crysencio Summerville, though he sustained the injury during the first half.
The 28-year-old has been involved in 82 Premier League goals for West Ham since his arrival from Hull City (48 goals, 34 assists), with only Michail Antonio (101) having a hand in more for the Hammers in the competition.
This season, he is West Ham’s top scorer with five goals and has also registered four assists, the most in the team.
He has also created the most chances (37), six of which were classed as a ‘big’ chance, and had the most shots (50) among his West Ham team-mates.
It is a significant blow to Julen Lopetegui, whose side sits 13th in the Premier League heading into the new year, with reigning champions Manchester City next up on Saturday.
Meanwhile, striker Michail Antonio has reportedly been discharged from hospital more than three weeks after sustaining a broken leg in a car accident.
The 34-year-old, who is West Ham’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, had surgery on a lower limb fracture following the crash earlier this month.
“Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail in the wake of the accident,” West Ham said on Tuesday.
