West Ham United have joined the race to sign out-of-contract former England international Gareth Barry, the Mail Online understands.
The 33 year old, who spent last season on loan at Everton, wasn’t offered a new contract with Premier League champions Manchester City, who he joined from Aston Villa in the summer of 2009.
In total, Barry made thirty-seven appearances in all competitions for Roberto Martinez’s men, scoring goals in league victories against Norwich City, Fulham and Hull City.
His form led to calls for the midfielder to receive an international recall, though he was not selected by Roy Hodgson for this summer’s World Cup final.
The Toffees are keen to secure his services on a permanent basis and have, along with Arsenal, tabled an offer worth around £50,000 per week.
However, Sam Allardyce’s side are willing to pay closer to the £65,000 per week mark as they look to build on last season’s thirteenth place finish.
