French midfielder Alou Diarra is on the verge of joining Chicago Fire, daily newspaper L’Equipe has revealed.
The same source has learned that the 33-year-old met with the MLS side representatives this morning and is expected to put pen to paper in the coming days.
Alou Diarra has been a free agent since leaving West Ham in the summer and he was linked with moves to Brighton, Sochaux and Nancy.
The veteran midfielder ultimately decided to embark on a new challenge in his career and is set to become the latest high-profile footballer to move to Major League Soccer.
Alou Diarra spent his early career with Bayern Munich and Liverpool, but it was in French Ligue 1 where he made a name for himself.
The holding midfielder enjoyed four very successful years with Bordeaux before moving to Marseille, while he has left his mark on international football as well, representing France on 44 occasions.
