West Ham United wanted to sign Samuel Bastien from Standard Liege in the summer transfer window, according to HBVL in Belgium. It has been reported that the Premier League side made a bid for the 24-year-old midfielder on deadline day, but his Belgian club turned it down.
The Hammers made an offer of £11 million for the former Belgium Under-21 international, but it was not enough for Liege and they turned down the offer. David Moyes’s side did not sign a single player on summer deadline day, although they could land players from the Championship and below from England until October 16.
West Ham are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment with six points from four matches. The Hammers have won their last two league games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City, and will face Tottenham Hotspur away from home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when league action resumes after the two-week international break.
