West Ham United are in talks with Benfica over potentially signing Gedson Fernandes from their ranks, according to Sky Sports. The Hammers parted ways with Manuel Pellegrini and re-hired David Moyes as the manager last week, and now they’re looking to make the midfielder their first signing of his second tenure.
Fernandes is very keen on a Premier League move and has been linked with Manchester United too, but he actually prefers the London Stadium as his next destination for ‘family reasons’. Discussions are in progress, and a deal which would include an initial 18-month loan spell and an option to buy at the end of it is currently on the table. The 20-year-old has a release clause of £102 million, but with his relationship with head coach Bruno Lange very shaky, Benfica are aware that they must seriously reconsider their demands for a player not in their future plans.
Olympique Lyon and AC Milan have made official bids for Fernandes, but it seems West Ham have the upper hand on both at the moment.
