West Ham have opened the talks with Jack Wilshere about a potential contract, according Sky Sports.
The Hammers’ interest in Wilshere has been reported before, while the midfielder himself recently said he was in no hurry to decide on the next chapter of his career having spent its entirety so far as an Arsenal player. He did, however, spend a season at Bournemouth on loan.
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is deep in the process of rebuilding the squad, and he has already overseen the arrivals of fullback Ryan Fredericks from Fulham and centre-back Issa Diop from Toulouse, as well as goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski from Swansea. The defenders have already joined up with the squad and started training, while the Polish shot-stopper is still on a break following his World Cup exploits.
Wilshere refused Arsenal’s offer of a new contract as was facing the prospect of both his wages and game-time being significantly reduced. Whether the Gunners’ new manager Unai Emery will regret such development remains to be seen.
