West Ham are readying January bid for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, according to English daily newspaper Metro.
With the player’s contract at Stade Gerland set to expire at the end of the season, the 28-year-old has set his sights on leaving the club in January, with English Premier League the most likely destination.
And while Newcastle remain in the running for his signature despite the striker rejecting a move to St James’ Park last winter, West Ham seem to have moved to pole position.
Sam Allardyce is desperately looking to sign a high-profile centre forward in January and Gomis appears to be one of the first names on his hit-list.
The Hammers are reportedly ready to shell out £5 million, whereas Lyon value the striker at £7 million.
Bafetimbi Gomis has earned an excellent reputation in France’s top flight having scored at least 10 goals in each of the last seven Ligue 1 seasons.
