West Ham United assistant manager Neil McDonald has admitted that the club are interested in signing Nickolas Anelka in the January transfer window, Talk Sport reports.
Anelka looks as though he could be on the way out of his current employers, Shanghai Shenhua, after a dispute about his pay.
When the Frenchman was at Bolton Wanderers he worked with the current West Ham boss, Sam Allardyce and they had a great relationship.
The 33-year-old really showed what a fantastic talent he was at Bolton and now he could be reunited with his former manager.
When asked about the chances of signing Anelka, McDonald said: “We are looking for good players and Anelka is a good player. He had a fantastic relationship with Sam.”
It could be a move that works well for the former Chelsea man as well as he would be all but guaranteed first-team football.
The East London club are struggling for goals at the moment with Andy Carroll out injured and Carlton Cole putting in good performances, but not scoring.
One thing Anelka has always done throughout his career is put the ball in the back of the net, so he could be a key part in West Ham’s English Premier League campaign.
If a deal can be agreed, he could be on the move in the New Year.
