West Ham United are interested in signing Sam Johnstone from West Bromwich Albion in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic. It has been reported that the Hammers have made a move for the England international goalkeeper, but the Baggies have turned it down.
West Brom, who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League, want over £10 million for Johnstone. The offer from West Ham, who will play in the Europa League next season, fell considerably below that figure.
West Ham are looking at Johnstone as a competition for and potential successor to Lukasz Fabianski. Fabianski has been on the books of the Hammers since 2018 and has been very good for the London club. However, the former Arsenal and Swansea City goalkeeper is 36 now, and West Ham need to start looking for a successor.
