Sky Sports have reported a statement from Corinthians in which the Brazilian club reveal that their valuation of Fabian Balbuena has been met by West Ham, and that the player will now travel to London to complete the medical.
The Hammers thus continue their squad rebuild under former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, having already signed goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski from Swansea, fullback Ryan Fredericks from Fulham and centre-back Issa Diop from Toulouse. They are also getting closer to bringing in Jack Wilshere on a free transfer as the midfielder’s contract with Arsenal has run out.
Like Diop, Balbuena is a centre-back and the Hammers’ interest in him, along with the three already completed signings, indicates that Pellegrini has started reconstructing the team from the back. However, Sky Sports claim the East London club have also made an offer for Dortmund winger Andriy Yarmolenko and that they are in talks with Sporting Lisbon over midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The 6’2″ occasional Paraguay international has played 116 games and scored 11 goals for Corinthians.
