West Ham revealed Wednesday they have rejected an offer from Premier League rivals Tottenham for England international midfielder Scott Parker.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a summer move away from Upton Park, with White Hart Lane a possible destination to link up with former Hammers boss Harry Redknapp.
But West Ham chairman David Sullivan told www.whufc.com: “I made a promise that I would not sell Scott and I will not, for any amount of money, break that promise to the West Ham supporters.
“Scott is not for sale at any price, to anyone. West Ham supporters, for far too long, have had owners that sell their best players and promise one thing and do another.
“This is a new era. We are building a bigger, better West Ham and when we make a promise, we honour it.”
The club also confirmed that former Yugoslavia international Zeljko Petrovic has been appointed assistant manager.
The 44-year-old, who played for eight clubs including Sevilla and PSV Eindhoven, was top of manager Avram Grant’s wish list.
“I am happy that we now have the staff set-up that I presented to the owners when I came,” said Grant who arrived at West Ham earlier in the summer after leading relegation-bound Portsmouth to the FA Cup final.
“The aim is to take the team forward with professional, positive people and have a creative atmosphere.
“Zeljko Petrovic has a lot of experience and knowledge as a player and a coach.”
Petrovic began his coaching career at Boavista in Portugal in 2006 before a stint at Dutch second division club RKC Waalwijk. In the 2008-9 season he worked alongside Martin Jol at Hamburg.
