West Ham sign Nene

West Ham sign Nene

West Ham United F.C. have completed the signing of former Paris Saint-Germain forward Nene until the end of the season.

Nene, who joins the Hammers on a free transfer after leaving Qatar Stars League side Al-Gharafa last month, provides manager Sam Allardyce with another attacking option following Andy Carroll’s season-ending knee injury.

The former Brazil Under-23 international will compete with the likes of Carlton Cole, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia for playing time at Upton Park.

“I am very excited and happy to be here. I’m proud to come to a really big club like West Ham and I’m going to do my best to help the team,” Nene said.

“I’ve been thinking about coming back to Europe for a few months because here the football, the ambience, everything is better.

“It’s a really good challenge for me, to come to a competition like the Premier League. It’s the most competitive in the world so this is the motivation for me.”

Nene will wear the No. 10 shirt for West Ham, and cannot wait to showcase his talent in the English Premier League.

“I like to get on the ball and show my technique,” Nene added.

“I like taking free-kicks, so practice to be good at that. I like making assists – that is my real work, to make the final pass to put the striker in a good position to score the goals.”

Over the past two and a half years, Nene scored 22 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions for Al-Gharafa.

Lambert almost signed for Villa on deadline day
Liverpool F.C. striker Rickie Lambert has revealed just how close he was to signing for Aston Villa on deadline day earlier this month.
The England international, 33, has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at Anfield this season, and the recent return of Daniel Sturridge will surely not help the 33-year-old’s case.
However, Lambert is going nowhere…at least until the end of the season.
“I got a phone call from the gaffer about 4 p.m. [on deadline day] saying Aston Villa had come in.

“He said he didn’t want me to go, but basically offered me the chance if I wanted to play football, which is fair enough.

“I spoke to my agent, my wife, to Aston Villa and it was close. It was very close. It was touch and go. We agreed everything.

“But in the end there just wasn’t enough time to say ‘yes’ – to make a decision in the space of four or five hours for the next two-and-a-half-years. Not just for me, but for my family as well.

“It was something I just couldn’t do. It was too short notice. It was too big a decision to make in the short amount of time I had.”

Lambert has bagged two goals in 18 league appearances, albeit just five starts, for the Reds in 2014/15.
