West Ham United have suffered a blow in their bid to sign Hans Vanaken from Club Brugge in the summer transfer window. According to Sky Sports, West Ham are interested in signing the 28-year-old attacking midfielder before the window closes next week and have made an offer of £13 million. However, Belgian club Brugge have turned it down and want a larger transfer fee for their club captain.
Vanaken has been on the books of Brugge since 2015 and has a contract with the Belgian club until 2024. The Belgium international has scored four goals and provided two assists in seven Jupiler Pro League games so far this season, according to WhoScored. The 28-year-old has also played in the Champions League and the Europa League with Brugge.
West Ham have made a mixed start to the season. After losing to Newcastle United and Arsenal in their opening two Premier League games, David Moyes’s side hammered Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 at the London Stadium last weekend.
