Competition: A-League
Market: Western Sydney Wanderers win
Odds: 17/10 @ 888sport
Knowing that three points in midweek could see them move within touching distance of the top-six, Western Sydney will welcome a leaky Perth defence to the Bankwest Stadium on Tuesday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Western Sydney might have been disappointed to have marked their return from the enforced break with a stalemate away at Central Coast, Jean-Paul de Marigny’s men certainly shocked many with an eye-catching display last week. Picking up what was a deserved late winner against a high-flying Wellington on home soil, the Red and Blacks also impressed many after entering football’s interruption with a point against runaway leaders and local rivals Sydney FC. Still knowing that they could mount a shock late charge for the top-six with three points in midweek, fans around the Bankwest Stadium will also be boosted by their side’s continued success on home soil. Including that 1-0 win against Wellington last time out, Tuesday’s hosts are unbeaten on home soil since January 19th and will be confident of extending on that tally in midweek.
As for the visitors, putting in what was another woeful display last week, Perth have continued to struggle since marking their return from the enforced break. Now in a real battle to secure a top-six finish after what has been an extremely disappointing campaign on the West Coast, the A-League’s former champions were completely blown away after shipping five away at Adelaide. Also marking their return from football’s interruption with a 2-1 defeat at home against Wellington, the Purples find themselves in the midst of a rut that has seen them secure just a single victory in their last eight matchups across all formats. With the mood in Tony Popovic’s camp at a continued low, Perth also have a growing reputation for their rather glaring issues on the road. Including that thumping defeat away at Adelaide last week, Tuesday’s guests have failed to win any of their previous six contests on their travels, a run that stems back to the middle of January.
