Gianluigi Donnarumma, 18 year old goalkeeper wonderkid who plays for A.C. Milan, started his first game for the Italian national team in an international friendly against Holland. He was praised by critics, many believing him to be the best player on the pitch that day. What does the future hold for the young keeper?

Where Will He Go?

Donnarumma is a product of Milan’s academy, and he has already showcased his talent, proving himself to be one of the best keepers in the Serie A. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and several of the top clubs in the world have him on their radar including Barcelona and Real Madrid. Several clubs have been rumored to offer around ‎‎€50 million for the keeper, a fee that would make his purchase the most expensive among a goalkeeper in the history of football. The fee is certainly deserved. The keeper has been delighting fans all season, and he is a main reason Milan are still in a good position to qualify for European football. In fact, a case can be argued that he is the best keeper in the league, even better than veteran and legend Gianluigi Buffon. He may lack experience, but he more than makes up for it in raw talent and a tall, lanky frame.

Mino Raiola is the player’s agent, and he is sure to make things interesting with the Rossoneri, being known for his greediness and massive transfers, representing players such as Pogba and Ibrahimovic.

How Has He Been Playing?

Donnarumma has had a stellar season, earning himself a 7.17 rating courtesy of WhoScored, the highest of any keeper in the league. He’s only conceded 32 goals this season, a remarkable feat considering his age and the lacklustre defense he plays behind. Donnarumma is one of the best keepers in the world, and at such a young age, he can only improve.

At 6′ 5″, he covers almost half the goal while still remaining as agile, if not more agile than any other keeper. He’s made a couple of remarkable saves when it matters most, including stonewalling Paolo Dybala to win Milan the Supercoppa Italiana. He has been playing at an incredible level, perhaps better than any keeper in the world. It’s yet to be seen if he can keep it up.

What Could He Become?

Short answer, the best keeper in the world. Long answer, the BEST KEEPER IN THE WORLD. Okay, sorry for the caps. I’m pretty excited for him. Unless he leaves us. Which wouldn’t be too unlikely. 🙁

He has already shown he can compete with the best keepers in the world, proving himself in one of the toughest leagues for keepers in the world. He’s already shattered any and all expectations, and he is one of the stars of tomorrow. He’s one of the few youngsters who consistently starts and makes an impact in every game he plays in. Sure, Renato Sanches had a good Euros, and sure Dembele has been playing well, but Donnarumma has consistently been there for Milan, each and every game, never missing a chance to pull off some miraculous saves or win a game for Milan.

So yes, I do believe that Donnarumma is by far the most talented youngster in the world. Whether he becomes the best keeper in the world still waits to be seen, but things are looking up for the teen.
