What will change at Manchester United this summer?

Wayne Rooney Sir Alex Ferguson Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has endured frustration at times with Manchester United, but will the England striker move to Pastures new this summer?

Manchester United drew 2-2 with West Ham last night at the Boleyn Ground.

The Champions-elect came from a goal down twice to earn a point through a 77th minute strike from Robin Van Persie.

Consistency

Manchester United has been the very model of consistency this season and that will eventually win the Red Devils the title.

They have ground out points when they have needed to, but have not exactly been putting in outstanding performances.

The style of play has not always been spectacular this season, more functional. I think many United fans would agree that this is not their best team in recent years.

Summer

With the title as good as secured, everybody connected with United must be looking towards the summer and wondering what will happen?

Speculation

The English media seems to be trumpeting the story about Wayne Rooney leaving for French giants PSG in a deal worth £25million. Rooney has not had his best season by United standards.

The England international’s form has been patchy and he does not seem to be enjoying his football. He is cutting a frustrated figure on the pitch at the moment.

Rooney is no longer the main man in attack, with Robin van Persie being the main man in the United strike force Rooney has played in different positions this season (nothing new).

Rooney is capable of playing in different positions, but at the end of day, he is a forward player. He is there to score goals and occasionally create them. He has 16 goals this season, the same amount as perennial substitute Javier Hernandez.

I do not think Wayne Rooney will want to leave United and I do not think he will leave Old Trafford. However, in football you just never know what is going to happen. Rooney’s performances will have to improve next season though if he does stay at United.

Falcao

United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao according to Spanish sports newspaper Marca. The Colombian international could leave the Vicente Calderon this summer.

However, it seems that previous interest from Manchester City and Chelsea has dried up. If Wayne Rooney leaves then United would need a replacement for the England international and it seems Falcao could be that replacement.

Falcao is a completely different sort of player to Rooney though. He is the ultimate number nine, an out-and-out striker. A partnership of Robin van Persie and Falcao would be a dream one in my book.

The player himself and Sir Alex Ferguson have denied the story, but like with the story about Rooney I would not rule anything out.

Wingers

One thing that has stood out about United this season is the fact that wingers Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia have not been at their best. All three have spent periods of the season sidelined through injury.

Young has yet to find the net this season, Valencia scored his first goal in last night’s draw and Nani has scored three times. Maybe I am being harsh on the trio, but United wingers of the past would have given the team far more of a goal scoring threat going forward.

Nani’s future at Old Trafford has been in doubt for a while now. The Portuguese international does have ability, but he blows so hot and cold, one minute he can be a match winner and the next a liability.

Italian side Juventus are reportedly interested in signing the winger and I can see United boss Sir Alex Ferguson letting him leave United this summer.

Ashley Young seems to have endured a nightmare year or so. His performances for England at the European Championships last year were poor and since then he has suffered a dip in form and injury problems.

There has also been speculation that Young could leave Old Trafford this summer. However, this just seems like paper talk and the England international will most likely still be at United next season.

Antonio Valencia has started more games than the other two wingers have, but has not quite hit top form. Injury problems have not helped him either. Valencia is one of my favourite United players. He will have to up his game if he wants to stay in the United team next season though.

The trio’s lack of form and availability has led to Wayne Rooney and fellow striker Danny Welbeck playing on the wings at times for United this season.

Midfield

The midfield has been a long-term problem for United. The likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs can’t go on playing forever and United need re-enforcements, but people have been saying that for a couple of seasons now.

Michael Carrick has been superb for United in the centre of the park this season. He has arguably been United’s best midfielder. Carrick’s England colleague Tom Cleverley has made giant strides forward this season as well.

Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa looks like he is settling into the United team nicely, after enduring a difficult start to his United career due to injuries.

United could still do with another central midfielder though. United were expected to sign another central midfielder last summer, but instead signed Van Persie. Maybe this summer United will bring in a top class midfielder.

Attitude

I have to admit I have not been that impressed with Manchester United’s style of play this season. However, they have somehow managed to stay consistent, despite a number of their players playing below par for much of the season.

Credit must go to Sir Alex Ferguson for instilling such a winning attitude into his squad of players. Granted they have had a bit of luck along the way, such as Van Persie’s goal last night.

As always though you cannot fault United’s work rate, spirit and will to win. Manchester United look set to claim their 20th English league title and I think there are few people that can argue that they fully deserve it.

What will change at Manchester United this summer?

Nani has been one of the most underperforming players this season. Any team that can get him back to his top form will win big.

Wel for starters i would buy pepe ( the real madrid one), he would be a good help in te heart of the defense AND he would be able to play in a more defensive mid. Role also helping carrick etc. He got the power and the speed and the experience( and it would be good also for his carreer)

As for other options i would like to see a younger defender go to man united i was thinking about aomone like mangala( porto), garay( benfica), varane( real madrid) or mabye a shawacross( wherever he is playing now)

    Hmm
As for other mid. Options wel i have mentioned pepe
But mabye granero? ( i think his club needs to sell him after their financial probs, and wel.. He got the skill and the time to improve and be a good midfielder for man united)
An other option could be ever banega, fellani( who realy needs to leave everton) , or witsel( who is an amazing player capable of both defense and offense, young and talented but playing at a shit club( sorreey zenit fans) and i dont think he is happy there.
Unmm for other options i would see james rodrigues( porto). He is young.. And an AMAZING player but true more in an attacking role or flank player but hes young and stil adaptable and eager to learn.
Mabye a player from the german bundesliga also.. But i think after their champ luege succes… They wont go cheap

I would also like to see ganso( idk if hes stil at santos) play, i think he would be a great asset to any big european club.

    And wel for attack
    Uhmm
Diego capel from sporting club de portugal,
Hes amazing and the one saving his club from being totaly crapp…
And with sportings money problema he could go on cheap
But hes a winger so i dont think hes that much needed
But on the other hand, if man united sell nani and young( that would get them allot of money)
They could buy this guy for cheap AND afford to buy c.ronaldo whom i would love to see in england again where he is atleast respected!
Mabye bring in di maria with him aswel
    And sell valencia
I dont like how that guy plays.

Quis is right guys. While it’s not your typical United efficiency in the back, second best GA record should mean all opposition fans should shudder at the thought of a United defense in top form.

Nani’s been frustrating, but I can still see it in him. I’d give him another season’s worth of time.

Young has indeed been disappointing. Good job last year, but your second season must be just as good or better to truly prove you belong. If only he wasn’t injured. . .

Rooney out? Uh-uh. Not the first time he’s had a poor season by both his and United’s standards, remember 2010-11? The only difference is that he hasn’t had a big defining moment to keep the season from being a total disaster. . . and we all know what I’m talking about there.

First of, four or fifth best right now which does make it poor. Second of, you should give your head a shake if you really think their defence is at the champions level. If it wasn’t for great offensive force, they’d be even out of the first four.

They need to improve their back. Kennedy, you might be right with midfielders but I see they only defensive ones are really needed. Carrick does a great job this season but he doesn’t have a classy partner near him to prevent defence from suffering. And the defence itself should either step up or new players should be brought.

Man U have midfield problem, we need midfielders that are in the class of Silver for man city, Mata for chelsea or a box to box midfielder like yaya toure. our defence has no problem. It is the midfield that makes the defence suffer. if the midfield is alright, there will not be much pressure on defence. If we have a good midfield, van persie will function more. the link between the attack and defence lies the problem.

The wingers have failed, I think Young should be sold. Anderson is a guy I love but he has not been able to meet up. He should also be sold. If rooney doesn’t want to play for united again, he can as well go. He has not been the rooney we all knew.

Sir Ferguson should get us good midfielders, it’s midfielders that decides how matches goes. Barcelona is strong because of xavi and iniesta, remove the two Barca is zero.

Falcao will be a wonderful purchase and if CR7 can come back to united that will be another good purchase. if united didn’t buy good midfielders this time I can assure you that they will not see first four next season.

All they Man U have to worry about is their wings and defence because in those areas they lack the most and this season has clearly shown it.

On the wings the most disappointing is Young. I’ve never been impressed with him, I don’t like the guy and I think top England clubs are too high level for him. It’d be good for United to get rid of him. Nani’s also a letdown this season but he’s got much bigger potential than Ashley but despite that I think he’ll leave. Valencia, on the other hand, won’t go anywhere, it’s not his best season but he still a valuable player. I’m also sure he won’t be let go by Ferguson.

They’re heading for the title but with this defence I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost it at the end of the campaign. The 2 defenders that were considered rock solid and that’s Ferdinand and Vidic has weaken and aren’t rock solid anymore. It’s a chance for Evans, Smalling and Jones but although they’re talented (especially Jones) still they must step up their game to deserve the spot. Full backs I think are OK. Maybe they should rise the competition and buy some good player on this position.

Rooney’s not going to leave, I’m damn sure about that. But if somehow he did, they might buy Falcao for the money they’d receive for Wazza. But they shouldn’t really worry about that, they still have 2 other amazing strikers. Also, they shouldn’t worry about defensive and offensive midfield. It’s the strongest part of the team.

What will change this summer? There will be at least 2 new players and it should be full back and a winger. But believing the speculation, we might see Lewandowski coming and that would be the biggest mistake he can make.
