Where could Manchester City be looking to strengthen this summer?

Watching their remarkable 21-match winning run come to an abrupt end in Sunday’s Manchester derby, Pep Guardiola will be hoping that is just a minor blip in their title charge.

Still managing to hold onto an 11-point buffer at the top of the Premier League table, The Sky Blues have received a string of plaudits from across Europe this season.

With many around The Etihad feeling that their side could still enjoy a quadruple-winning campaign this year, all eyes this summer will be on where the former Barcelona boss is looking to strengthen.

With many questions still surrounding Sergio Aguero’s future as his contract comes to an end this summer, we have taken a look at three stars who are reportedly on Manchester City’s radar.

Adrien Rabiot – Juventus

Although the likes of İlkay Gündoğan and Kevin De Bruyne might have done a stellar job of leading Manchester City’s title charge this season, many around The Etihad feel that Guardiola will be keen on strengthening his midfield options this summer.

With veteran skipper Fernandinho turning 36 in May, it has been widely reported over the past week that City are interested in Juventus midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.

Appearing to have found his feet out in Italy after a rocky start to life in Turin, the French international has impressed since returning from the festive break and his agent has spoken about City’s interest.

Although his representatives might have told Tuttosport that they do expect Rabiot to stay put at The Allianz this summer, they did state that “The Frenchman is on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City goal list.”.

Previously linked with a potential Premier League move last summer, the former PSG star has also been linked to the likes of Manchester United over the past 12 months.

Erling Haaland – Borussia Dortmund

With Sergio Aguero’s contract at City coming to an end this summer, it is no secret that The Sky Blues will be looking to bring in another star striker before the 2021/22 campaign gets underway.

Watching Gabriel Jesus give away a clumsy penalty in the opening minute against Manchester United on Sunday, many feel that the Brazilian isn’t the man to be their heavyweight number nine.

Unsurprisingly, only continuing to break a string of records since moving to rural Germany, the red-hot Erling Haaland will no doubt be topping many a wishlist this summer.

Still linked with the likes of Real Madrid after bagging himself 35 goals for club and country so far this season, the 20-year-old is undoubtedly one of world football’s hottest properties.

With Haaland’s father spending three years in the blue half of Manchester between 2000-2003, The Athletic reported over the weekend that City feel they’re sat in pole position to pounce on the Borussia Dortmund superstar this summer.

Jack Grealish – Aston Villa

While Jack Grealish might have been forced to sit out of Aston Villa’s last four Premier League games with a leg injury, the 25-year-old has gained a long list of admirers this season.

Enjoying what many have billed as a career-best campaign in the midlands, Villa’s homegrown star is tipped to be one of this season’s PFA Player of the Year nominees.

Although Dean Smith’s side might have just hung onto their top-flight status on the final weekend of fixtures last summer, Villa suddenly have a European finish on their agenda.

While their top-six ambitions might have taken a dent due to Grealish’s injury over the past three weeks, their playmaker has notched himself seven goals and 10 Premier League assists this season.

Heavily linked with both Manchester United and Manchester City when the window reopens this summer, Villa’s superstar also appears destined for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad at this year’s European Championships.
