Which foreign stars could be heading to the Premier League this summer?

StevenDefourYesterday I wrote an article about who may or may not sign for Chelsea this summer. It got me thinking about this summer and the players who could end up playing in Premier League next season. I have already talked about the likes of Franck Ribery, David Villa and Sergio Aguero.

Those are the high profile potential arrivals in the Premier League but there are other players out there with lots of talent who could end up gracing England’s top flight next season. Here I will profile just a few of them.

Miguel Veloso (Sporting Lisbon)

The talented Portuguese international can play at left-back or in the defensive midfield role. He seems to have been around for an age, yet he is just 23. He would be an ideal signing for a Premier League side looking for a good strong defensive midfielder. He also has the ability to go forward, as he showed by scoring two goals against Everton in the Europa League recently.

Manchester United are believed to be interested in signing the £10million rated star and he would be a great asset to any Premier League club. Another side to be linked with the Portuguese star are Arsenal.

Joao Moutinho (Sporting Lisbon)

Veloso’s Sporting teammate and midfield partner Joao Moutinho is also highly rated and has been linked with a move to Everton in the past. He revealed that he wanted the move to happen but his club decided to price him out of a move.

However rumours coming from Portugal are that the Sporting captain will move on this summer. If he does move this summer then no doubt Everton will be back in for him. Everton however now have a variety of options in midfield and may decide to strengthen other areas of the team.

Steven Defour (Standard Liege)

The 21 year-old has attracted scouts from many of Europe’s top clubs in the last few years after leading Liege to two consecutive Belgian league titles. Defour is a talented midfielder who has been described as the complete midfielder.

The youngster is Standard’s youngster ever captain and attracted interest from both Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton last summer. It was also rumoured that the Belgian champions turned down a bid in the region of £10million from the Toffee’s.

With Standard well off the pace in their domestic league this season the talented midfielder could now make the big move away from the Reds. The Belgian international has a fiery approach to the game and his style would be well suited to the Premier League.

Manuel Neuer (Schalke)

The German international keeper is one of the best young keepers in the world. The 23 year-old has helped his club side Schalke to one of their best seasons in years in the Bundesliga. Schalke are second in the table just a few points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

This challenge has been helped by Neuer’s superb form under the experienced Felix Magath.  Despite Schalke’s lofty position Neuer has been constantly linked with a move to a bigger club. According to reports Bayern Munich and Manchester United are set to fight it out for Neuer’s services this summer.

Marko Marin (Werder Bremen)

The 21 year-old attacking midfielder has caught the eye this season after a summer switch from Monchengladbach. His direct running and skill has lead to comparisons with Arsenal playmaker Andrey Arshavin.

His ability with the ball has already won him a place in the German international squad and he could be going to next summer’s World Cup. It seems he is currently competing with his outstanding teammate Mesut Ozil for a place on the plane. The little winger has the ability and temperament for the Premier League and the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United will be monitoring his situation.

Guillermo Ochoa (Club America, Mexico)

I believe I have talked about this keeper before in a previous article about Arsenal. I said that he would be an ideal signing for the Gunners and they are currently monitoring the Mexican international’s progress.

The 24 year-old is regarded as one of the hottest young keepers around and it doesn’t seem a move to the Premier League would faze him.  His contract with his club side includes a release clause believed to be £7.5million, so the fee isn’t a massive one and he would definitely be a worthwhile signing.

He has even admitted that he would love to move to Manchester United.  He has also been linked with moves to Everton and La Liga side Deportivo. If he puts in some good displays for Mexico at the World Cup finals he could very well end up plying his trade in the Premier League next season.

Yeah, there isn’t many keepers around that could replace Van der Sar but he can’t go on forever. There needs to be somebody brought in soon as it seems Fergie doesn’t have confidence in the keepers you currently have.

here’s one player I’d like to see at Manchester United: Landon Donovan.:D thing is, only Tim Howard has ever had any success in getting a regular starting position with the Red Devs.:(

Wholoso? haha. . . I cant pick up Portuguese Ligue action here, which explains why I said Wholoso. Though he plays in the positions I play for my youth club: Left Back, Defensive Midfielder. . . so I’ll look into this.

by the way. . . replacement? Jesus, David, how can you replace someone like Van der Sar? He has done so much for us in goal; I think he broke the world record for most minutes during games without conceding a single goal. . . what was it, like, 1,200+ minutes up until he made the new record? sorry David, I dont understand, how do you replace a GK like that? Neuer and Ochoa, they’ll only ever be shadows of his legacy. They’ll be like Peter Shilton (though he was good, himself) after Gordon Banks retired from international duty: not the same.

Yeah, Brad I’m telling you he would be a great replacement for Edwin Van der Sar. However If I was Fergie I would be signing Neuer. Brad what do you think of Veloso?

Guillermo Ochoa. . . good grief!- I cant stand him!!! (it’s because of the U.S.A vs. Mexico rivalry), but you know, if he plays for United, I’ll stop hating him and actually like him- a bit.

after all, he’s been good enough to be one of the guys on the FIFA video games front covers for a while. . .

Well, Di Maria is being strongly linked with Manchester City and apparently Hamsik is heading for Inter Milan if Jose Mourinho stays. I know Chelsea have an interest in both players, so we will have to see what happens.
