Which strikers could be heading for Liverpool this January?

Is Daniel Sturridge praying for a January move to Liverpool?

Since the summer transfer window slammed shut the absence of any decent attacking alternative to Luis Suarez has been obvious at Liverpool.

When the transfer window shut Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was left with just the Uruguayan and Fabio Borini as his attacking options.

The young Italian has spent the last few months on the sidelines injured and Luis Suarez has led the Liverpool line singlehandedly.

The Liverpool boss is set to add to his strike-force next month. Here are some of the strikers being linked with a move to Anfield:

Demba Ba (Newcastle)

The Newcastle striker has been consistently linked with a move to Merseyside and the player’s £7.5million release clause could make him a very attractive option for Liverpool. The Senegal striker has scored 11 goals for Newcastle this season, scoring over half the Magpies goals this season.

Ba has also been linked with a move to Arsenal and French nouvre riche PSG in the transfer window. Ba could prove to be the perfect player to compliment Luis Suarez’s skills in the Reds attack.

Newcastle are trying to re-negotiate Ba’s contract to get rid of the release clause, but the striker looks more likely to exit the club than sign a new contract.

Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)

The England attacker is another one that has been rumoured to be interesting Liverpool for a while now. Sturridge has fallen out of favour at Chelsea and has had to play second fiddle to Fernando Torres in the last couple of seasons.

Like Liverpool, Chelsea are not blessed with the best attacking options, with only Torres and Sturridge available to interim boss Rafa Benitez. However, according to reports in the Daily Mirror the Spaniard will be given the funds to strengthen his team in January, with Atletico Madrid hitman Radamel Falcao believed to be top of his shopping list.

Reports in today’s papers suggest that Sturridge is close to agreeing a £12million move to Anfield when the window opens.  It remains to be seen if this deal will come to fruition.

Gary Hooper (Celtic)

The Celtic striker currently has 18 months left on his contract at Celtic Park, but talks over fresh terms have reportedly broken down. Hooper has a very good scoring record in the SPL and is now attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Newcastle and Southampton.

Italian champions Juventus are also believed to be interested in acquiring the 24 year-old’s services. However, Hooper has expressed his interest in playing in the Premier League to increase his chances of gaining a place in the England squad.

Hooper is a goal poacher and would definitely add a big goal threat to Liverpool’s attack. He has experience of playing as a lone striker, which would be an advantage in Brendan Rodgers preferred formation.

Robert Lewandowski (Dortmund)

The Polish international striker may well be the most unrealistic target, being that his fee could be as much as £25million, but never the less the Reds are still being linked with a move for the talented frontman.

Lewandowski is a very intelligent striker that has good composure in front of goal. His scoring record with the German champions is exceptional and he has good experience of playing in the Champions League.

Premier League rivals Manchester United are currently believed to be in pole position to sign the Pole, if Dortmund does decide to sell. The opportunity to play in the last 16 of the Champions League could be enough to persuade the striker to stay at the Signal Iduna Park, at least until next summer.

Needed

Liverpool are currently in desperate need of extra attacking options. Luis Suarez is trying to win games on his own at the moment and its affecting his ability to find the net. Liverpool are in 12th place in the Premier League.

However, the Reds are only seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham. If they sign a quality striker in January, who knows they may be able to push on for those lucrative Champions League spots.

Without adding a quality striker to the squad Liverpool could be in for a very disappointing campaign indeed. Liverpool have made progress under Brendan Rodgers and an extra striker would only aide that development.

Which striker should Liverpool sign in January?

To me, doing everything possible to snatch Lewandosky, I think is the best. I have seen the lad did wonders for his current club. The fees and wages might be high but I think we should break the bank to get a world class striker like him.

Cash is a scarce commodity and even the Sturridge deal can flop if the agents continue their ridiculous demands.
Demba plus another senior ‘experienced’ striker is really what i want to see. I’d chose from Klose, Huntelaar or one of those big Spanish strikers linked with the Reds for so long. We need size on the park Brendan, those small midfielders and strikers cannot manage this rough pace without help from some big boys.

LEWANDOWAKI is too expensive for lfc and he ll prefer moving to a team that is already playing in the champion league than the team that is truckling to qualify ,so he is not our type ,he ll prefer staying where he is than coming to us and his salary too is expensive so less forget him, we don’t have much money
