Opening the 2021/22 Premier League campaign with what was a thumping 3-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, it is no secret that many have tipped Chelsea as one of the leading early-season picks in the title chase.
Only going from strength to strength since bringing Thomas Tuchel to Stamford Bridge earlier in the year, The Blues are still riding a real wave after lifting the Champions League title thanks to May’s 1-0 win against Manchester City.
With the mood around West London at a real high, Chelsea fans were also sent into overdrive last week as it was announced that former Blues striker and Inter Milan ace Romelu Lukaku had completed a record-breaking deal as the 28-year-old made his Premier League return.
Spending £97.5million on the Belgian marksman, it has been widely reported that Tuchel’s side are not done with their transfer activity before the window slams shut in under a fortnight. So, we have taken a look at three other stars who could be on their way to Chelsea.
Jude Bellingham – Borussia Dortmund
While Jude Bellingham might have been used sparingly by Gareth Southgate at the summer’s European Championships, the Borussia Dortmund starlet once again showed why he is regarded by many to be one of the most talented young midfielders from across the continent.
Really hitting the ground running after he made the move from boyhood club and Championship outfit Birmingham last year, The Daily Star reported on Monday that the defending Champions League winners have named the 18-year-old as a potential new addition before the window slams shut.
Despite being heavily linked with a move for former schoolboy Declan Rice over the past 12 months, Eurosport are also reporting that Roman Abramovich has identified Bellingham as the perfect alternative to the West Ham skipper, who is valued at £100million by their crosstown rivals.
Enjoying a breakout campaign in rural Germany last season and also shinning in Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League adventure, there is no doubt that Chelsea fans would consider it quite the scalp if they were able to tempt Bellingham back to England over the coming weeks.
Jules Kounde – Sevilla
Although Chelsea might have once again recorded another clean sheet with their routine 3-0 win against Crystal Palace on the opening weekend, it is no secret to many around Stamford Bridge that the former PSG boss is keen on bringing in another central defender before the window slams shut at the end of the month.
While defensive starlet Trevoh Chalobah might have marked his Premier League debut with a goal in Saturday’s victory against The Eagles, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano announced over the weekend that Chelsea are lining up a fresh bid for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
Heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old over the past weeks, it was reported by The Express on July 28th that the European kings have already reached personal terms with that talented French defender, and that Kounde has his heart set on completing a move to Stamford Bridge before the window slams shut.
With Sevilla sporting director Monchi announcing that they would be willing to part ways with Kounde if they can reach an acceptable offer, Chelsea are also believed to be keen on using Kurt Zouma as a makeweight in any potential deal.
Pape Matar Sarr – Metz
Although Rennes’ blossoming superstar Eduardo Camavinga might be attracting interest from the likes of Real Madrid this summer, he is not the only young French starlet who appears to be a teenager in demand.
Enjoying a breakout campaign with Metz last season and receiving a string of praise from across Ligue 1, Pape Matar Sarr burst onto the scene after being promoted to the senior side in November after just one reserve team outing.
Going on to make 22 top-flight appearances and making his international debut last year, The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Chelsea would be keen on striking a deal for Sarr over the next week.
While Tuchel’s side might be heavily linked with a move for the Metz youngster, it appears that they will face some stiff competition from a host of fellow Premier League heavyweights. The Daily Mail’s report suggests that both Manchester United and Manchester City have registered an interest for the 18-year-old.
