Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers’ search for a new manager isn’t going as smoothly as their board would have hoped.
It seems like Wolves are struggling to find a replacement for the departed Mick McCarthy.
Snubbed
According to speculation former-Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has been approached to take the position. However he is believed to have turned down the job because he was only offered a contract until the end of the season.
Curbishley has been out of the game for a while and surely a Premier League job would have been a good opportunity for him. Wolves don’t have a bad team and its not like the club are stranded at the bottom of the Premier League table, they are in the relegation zone on goal difference.
Curbishley could have taken the job until the end of the season and if they survived relegation, then no doubt he would have been given a new contract. Instead he decided to turn the offer down and remain outside football. The clubs officials have refused to be drawn on the speculation over Curbishley.
Unwanted
One of the frontrunners for the job Steve Bruce isn’t wanted by the majority of the Wolves fans. Sunderland were in the relegation zone when Steve Bruce left the club and it seems that Wolves fans don’t believe he can get the club out of trouble.
Although the fans aren’t the ones who will choose the new boss if he doesn’t have the support of the fans then he will struggle to lift the team. It doesn’t seem like Bruce would get that support from the very loyal Wolves supporters.
Lower
Wolves have been linked with some bosses from the Championship. Reading’s Brian McDermott has been talked about a potential appointment but his club has denied there has been any contact between the two clubs.
Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton is also believed to be in the frame. However the former-Newcastle boss has ruled himself out of a move to the Blues local rivals. Hughton has done a superb job at St Andrews and has guided them into the play-offs places in the Championship.
Inexperienced
Former-Huddersfield boss Lee Clark has been mooted as an outsider for the position. Clark was unfortunate to lose his job at Town but he is a highly-rated young up and coming coach. He had previously been linked with other big jobs, such as Leeds United.
However at 39 years of age it looks unlikely that he will be given the opportunity to manage at the top level just yet. I think Clark could be a decent appointment but he is inexperienced.
Regrets
The managers being linked with the vacant position really haven’t inspired the Wolves faithful. It seems that they are disillusioned with the potential new bosses, to the point where some have stated they want Mick McCarthy
The old phrase be careful what you wish for springs to mind. A lot of Wolves fans were in favour of sacking McCarthy and now some of those same fans are wish their club had keep the former-Ireland boss.
Difficult
Whoever Wolves choose as their new boss they need to get the decision correct. If the Wolves board don’t get the decision correct then Wolves could be heading for the Championship and Mick McCarthy’s sacking could be in vein.
Who will be the next Wolves boss?
