It seems that this summer one of the most in-demand Premier League players is Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia.
The French international is apparently being chased by half the Premier League teams.
Interest
Speculation in today’s media has Aston Villa at the head of the queue to sign the winger in a £9million deal.
Villa boss Alex McLeish is looking for a replacement for the departed Ashley Young and it seems he sees N’Zogbia as the ideal solution.
Unfortunately for the Scot they will face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Sunderland for the Wigan winger. Everton are also believed to be interested in signing N’Zogbia but Toffee’s boss David Moyes will have to sell to buy this summer.
Liverpool are expected to carry on spending big this summer to challenge for Champions League football again next season.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish seems to have earmarked the left-wing position as a problem position, with Argentinian winger Maxi Rodriguez expected to leave Anfield this summer.
Contract
Wigan don’t want to lose the winger but Latic’s boss Roberto Martinez seems to have accepted that he will be selling one of his best players. N’Zogbia’s contract expires next summer, so Wigan will have to sell in this transfer window or risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Inconsistent
Although the French international is in-demand he can be infuriatingly inconsistent. One week he can be explosive and the next he can disappear from a game. Although last season was arguably one of his more consistent seasons in English football.
Hopefully the next club he signs for their manager can help him discover some consistency. He is 25 and it’s about time he started to perform week-in week-out.
Attitude
One of factors in him not finding his consistency could be his attitude. N’Zogbia has at times struggled to get on with some of his previous managers. He is known to be a difficult player to handle and it’s effected his performances in seasons gone by.
Attributes
His attributes outweigh his attitude problems and inconsistency though. N’Zogbia can produce that flash of brilliance that can win games. The ex-Newcastle winger also has blistering pace, which is a good quality for a Premier League player.
N’Zogbia also has the ability to play at left-back and his versatility also adds to his transfer value. All these attributes add up to the Frenchman being such hot property.
Home
It’s believed that the French international would prefer to stay in the North West as he is already settled in the region. That means the likes of Liverpool and Everton would be favourites to sign the winger.
However a move to Aston Villa seems more likely at the moment, with the Midlands side set to put in a bid for N‘Zogbia. Villa are based in Birmingham which isn’t a miles away from the North West.
Higher
N’Zogbia is keen to step up to a higher level. Aston Villa may be a bigger club than Wigan but they can’t offer Champions League or Europa League football next season.
For now though Charles N’Zogbia may have to settle for a move to Aston Villa. If he can find more consistency then maybe in a few years he could be gracing a team challenging for a place in the Champions League.
Who will sign Charles N’Zogbia this summer?
