Two of Europe’s biggest club sides go head to head tomorrow night as Barcelona host Real Madrid at the Nou Camp.

It’s a must win game for Spanish and European champions Barca, as they trail their rivals from the capital by four points in La Liga.

Alive

Just a month or so ago it looked like Real Madrid had the league title wrapped up after a blistering run of form.

However Los Blancos stumbled and have let their lead slip to just four points. It’s crucial that they avoid defeat in Saturday nights Clasico.

Barca know that if they fail to beat Real then the Primera Division title will almost certainly be heading to the Bernabeu. With just five games to go Real Madrid would have to slip up twice for Barcelona to regain the title without a Barca victory at the Nou Camp, very unlikely indeed.

However if Barcelona defeat Real and win all their remaining games then they would have a far better chance of winning the title. They would only need Real to draw one of their four remaining matches to win the title on head-to-head.

Deciding

Real Madrid have been outstanding all season. However their season will heavily depends on what happens in the next week. First Jose Mourinho’s side face Barca in El Clasico, then they have to try to recover a 2-1 deficit against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final next Wednesday.

Despite their fine form for most of the season their season could depend on these two fixtures. At least they only have to avoid defeat to Barcelona. They actually have to beat Bayern at the Bernabeu., which could be easier said than done.

Different

Real Madrid have looked a far better team this season than last. They have looked more like a team, than a group of individuals and that’s why the team has had such a good season so far. The team has gelled to devastating effect scoring a club record number of goals in the league.

Best

We obviously couldn’t talk about El Clasico without mentioning two of the main protagonists. Arguably the two best players in the world Real’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barca’s Lionel Messi. Both players have fired home 41 goals in La Liga this season, bettering even last seasons totals.

I believe that Ronaldo has improved as a player this season. He seems less selfish and is working slightly harder for the team. Ronaldo has definitely had a hand in Real Madrid’s improvement this season.

Not just his goals but his all-round attitude and game seems have improved. However he seems to live forever in the shadow of Barca’s great Argentinian superstar. There is not much more that I can say about Messi that hasn’t already been said.

He is simply brilliant. He plays like a kid on the street with a ball and I don’t think that’s ever going to change. His enthusiasm for the game never seems to diminish and he always wants the ball.

Messi more often then not delivers on the big occasions when inspiration is needed the most. In comparison Ronaldo has been accused of fluffing his lines on the big occasions. However the Portuguese international has scored in three out of the last four El Clasico’s.

This could be a sign that he is improving as a player and maturing into a more rounded player. Maybe he can prove to everybody in tomorrow nights match once and for all he is not a player who struggles on the big occasions.

Draw

I can’t help thinking that El Clasico will finish in a draw. Barcelona really need to win the match but Real Madrid have improved all-round this season and I can see them having just enough quality to hold their Catalan rivals off but not enough to win the game.

However you can never write off Barcelona when they have the likes of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi. Every Clasico is fascinating but this one promises to be one full of drama and intrigue. I just hope its the football we are talking about afterwards and not the amateur dramatics.

Anyway tomorrows night game will most likely decide the destination of the league title and as it is I can see the Jose Mourinho and the men from the capital being the happier after the game. However for now the race for title glory is still well and truly on.

Not anymore. It seems like there is always at least 4 El Classicos each season: La Liga matches, a meeting in Copa del Rey, and then the Spanish Super Copa, and the chance of Champions League clashes.

Not to mention, they like to be very negative most of the time. Barca dives, Mourinho talks nonsense and goes crazy, Madrid players trying to start a fight. . . I’d rather just watch a 0-0 draw between United and City.
