Why is David Moyes still at Everton?

Everton boss David Moyes is without doubt one of the brightest British bosses in the Premier League.

He has managed to perform miracles at the club on one of the tightest budgets in the top flight.

The Scot has been at Everton for the last ten years and his frustration is now starting to show.

Signing

David Moyes completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson for an undisclosed fee on Friday. Gibson is the only player to arrive at Goodison Park for a fee in the last 12 months. That say’s a lot about the financial state of the club.

Money

Moyes’ main frustration must be the lack of money available to reinforce his squad. His Everton squad is wafer thin and is also aging. The Scot hasn’t been able to replace his aging stars with adequate replacements. Instead Everton’s team has been left to stagnate.

Everton Chief Executive Robert Elstone has defended the clubs transfer policy on the clubs official website, stating that the club has invested a net of £35million in the last five years. The club is heavily in debt with recorded debts of £45million in May 2011.

However, Everton sold strikers Yakubu, Jermaine Beckford and midfield playmaker Mikel Arteta on the last day of the summer transfer window. The trio’s sale raised around £15million, which by my calculations reduced the debt to £30million.

Quality

David Moyes has been unable to replace Spanish playmaker Mikel Arteta because the club simply couldn’t afford to replace the former-Rangers man. Unfortunately for Moyes his squad’s quality seems to get diluted every summer because of a lack of money.

As the quality of David Moyes’ squad has been reduced he has had to work with his hands tied behind his back. He would love to go out and spend money to refresh his squad. Moyes is an ambitious boss and he wants to fulfil his ambitions at Goodison Park. However he just hasn’t been given the funds.

Loyal

David Moyes is the third longest serving manager in the Premier League, behind Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger. The Scot has shown an amazing loyalty to Everton to stay at the club in such difficult circumstances.

Frustrated

Despite showing loyalty to the Blues David Moyes is getting frustrated with the circumstances at Everton. He knows exactly what he needs to do to make Everton successful but he can’t because he is hamstrung by the lack of support from the clubs board and Chairman Bill Kenwright.

Everton fans are realistic and we know that we can’t go out and spend a fortune but we are left wondering how a club of our size and history can be in such a terrible situation. David Moyes must be thinking exactly the same.

Ambitious

As a Everton fan I really want David Moyes to stay at Everton and the club to find new investors to give him the money he needs to succeed. If that new investment doesn’t arrive in the near future then I can see David Moyes leaving.

The Scot is too proud to walk out on the club though and it would take an offer of a really big job to tempt Moyes out of Goodison Park. Tottenham could lose boss Harry Redknapp to the England national side in the summer and Moyes is being spoken about as a potential replacement for Redknapp.

I would understand if David Moyes decided to move on because he simply hasn’t been given the resources he needs to do his job.

David Moyes leaving Everton would be an absolute disaster. The Scot has kept Everton punching above their financial weight for along time and he will continue to give everything for the club until the day he moves on.

Will David Moyes still be at Everton this summer?
