Barcelona full-back Daniel Alves seems set to leave the Spanish champions in the summer of 2012.
The Brazilian international’s contract expires in 2012 and he could then leave on a free transfer.
Alves has played a key part in Barcelona’s sensational form of the last few years.
Up and Down
Daniel Alves’ main strength is his pace. His pace enables him to get up and down the pitch.
He is a typical Brazilian full-back, who loves to get forward and join in the attack. In fact he is often found in the opposition’s penalty area, even in open play.
Despite Alves fancying himself as a part-time winger he never seems to forget his defensive duties. His athletic physique and abilities allow him to cover so much ground in a short amount of time. It’s these abilities that make him such a good player.
Discussion
Barcelona are hoping to persuade Alves to stay at the club. Barca boss Pep Guardiola however has revealed he won’t keep him at the club against his will. Guardiola said: “We have talked about it with Dani, I told him how I feel, and I do not want him to stay here while he is unhappy.
“He deserves to ask for what he wants, and the club has the right to give it, or not. I want him to be happy here, or anywhere.”
From what Pep says it sounds like the 27 year-old is currently unhappy at the Nou Camp. I’m just wondering how he can feel unhappy in one of the best clubs sides ever.
Money
The only reason I can think of is that he is unhappy with his wage package. Barcelona does have massive debts but I’m sure they’ll be able to up his wages slightly to keep him in Spain. If they can’t afford to keep him it will be a big blow to the team.
Move
The Brazilian international has been linked with a move to Manchester City. Alves would earn a major amount of money at Eastlands. Although Manchester City has denied making contact with the player’s agent and some pundits have said his agent is using a rumoured interest to hike up his wages at the Nou Camp.
He has the right to get the best possible deal he can, wherever he moves though it would currently be a step down from Barcelona.
Challenge
Maybe a move wouldn’t be down to just economics, maybe the Brazilian feels like he needs a fresh challenge. He has won every club trophy possible with Barcelona and he could be fancying a change of scenery.
Summer
For now Daniel Alves needs to keep his head in the game, as Barcelona are challenging on all fronts for trophies. They look determined to win the Champions League this season and will need Alves in his best buccaneering form.
Daniel Alves is currently sidelined but is likely to return to action very soon. If he is unhappy at the club he has not shown it on the pitch this season and his performances haven’t suffered. If Daniel Alves does decide to leave, Barcelona will still be a fantastic team but they are definitely a better team with him than without him.
Why would Daniel Alves want to leave Barca?
