Werder goalkeeper Tim Wiese has revealed that he plans to leave the Weserstadion outfit at the end of the season.
The experienced keeper has just a couple of months left on his deal with the club from Bremen and it is now clear that he will not be signing a new deal.
The Germany international confirmed that he will be leaving the club when his contract expires in the summer.
“I had great seven years at Werder. Here I’ve played in the Champions League five times, won the DFB Pokal,” Wiese said in an exclusive interview with German newspaper Bild.
“But now I need a new sporting challenge. There is nothing more I can say right now.”
Wiese started his professional career at Fortuna Koln and he spent four years at Kaiserslautern before joining Werder on a free transfer in 2005.
Several serious injuries prevented him from making a bright start to his career in Bremen, but he quickly became the number one keeper in the squad.
Since joining the club in 2005 Wiese featured in 187 Bundesliga games for Werder, while the good showings at Weserstadion helped him earn 6 Germany caps in the process.
