Charles N’Zogbia looks set to join Birmingham after Wigan accepted an offer from Alex McLeish’s team for the unsettled France winger.
N’Zogbia has been keen to leave Wigan for several months since Birmingham first had a bid rejected for the former Newcastle player.
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish revealed on Wednesday that his club had come back with a new offer for N’Zogbia, prompting Latics manager Roberto Martinez to criticise City for going public with their interest.
But N’Zogbia is now set to talk to Birmingham about the move after Wigan confirmed on Friday they have accepted a “much-improved” offer for the 24-year-old.
A short statement on the club’s website read: “Wigan Athletic can confirm that they have accepted a much improved offer from Birmingham City for France winger Charles N’Zogbia, which has now met the club’s valuation.
“The player has now been given permission to speak with Birmingham.”
N’Zogbia, who made his France debut earlier this month in a friendly defeat in Norway, moved to Newcastle from Le Havre in 2004.
He joined Wigan in January 2009 after falling out of favour at St James’ Park and was voted player of the year at the DW Stadium last season.
