Competition: League One
Market: Wigan Athletic win
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the League One table, Wigan will make the trip to Morecambe on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, putting in a flat display over the weekend and knowing that they were lucky to have left AFC Wimbledon with a point to show for their troubles, Morecambe find themselves in the midst of an extended struggle. While the Shrimps might have almost pulled of a real FA Cup shock away at Premier League giants Tottenham earlier in the month, Stephen Robinson’s side are in a battle to maintain their League One status this season. Opening up Tuesday’s fixtures still sat two points adrift of safety, the Lancashire-based outfit have won just a single fourth-tier contest since November 20th. Likewise, despite opening the New Year with an action-packed victory against Doncaster, it should also be noted that the former Motherwell boss has seen his side record just a sole win at the Mazuma Stadium in their last seven attempts.
As for the visitors, while Morecambe might find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap, the same cannot be said for a high-flying Wigan side. Tipped as a standout pick to clinch an immediate Championship return this season, Leam Richardson’s men were last seen over the weekend claiming a 2-1 victory away at Doncaster. Knowing that three points on Tuesday could skyrocket them back into the top-two, the Latics are also enjoying what has been a hugely impressive four-match winning run. Likewise, it should also be noted that the League One giants have remarkably not lost any of their previous 15 matchups across all formats, a run that stems all the way back to October 26th. Looking to lay down another marker here and unbeaten away from the DW Stadium in any of their previous 11 straight outings, we’re backing another away win here.
