Wigan midfielder Wilson Palacios is set to join Tottenham after undergoing a medical at White Hart Lane yesterday, according to BBC Sport.
Numerous clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City were said to be interested in signing the Honduran international, however it seems as if Tottenham have won the race for the star with a bid in the region of £14 million.
Manchester City were said to be in pole position to sign the midfielder until boss Mark Hughes switched his attention to Hamburg’s Nigel De Jong. BBC Sport claims that the midfielder had reservations about moving away from the north of England where he had settled since arriving in England.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has always said he was confident of capturing the star, telling press last week: “We’ve agreed a deal and the chairman is talking to his people. Hopefully it will happen. “
Redknapp, uncle of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard went on to tell press that even Lampard recommended the signing of Palacios, saying “I like the way Palacios plays, he’s an all-round modern midfielder. Frank Lampard reckons no-one has had an easy game against him. He has the ability to become real top class.”
