Wigan take Albrighton on loan

Wigan Athletic have signed Marc Albrighton on loan from Aston Villa, the Metro understands.

The winger’s only appearance this season came in the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Capital One Cup, while he only made five starts in all competitions in the entirety of last season following a string of injuries.

His contract at Villa Park is set to expire at the end of the season, and with him unlikely to be handed a new deal, he has moved to the DW Stadium in the hope of regular first team football.

Owen Coyle’s men currently sit in fourteenth place, eight points off the top six though they do have two games in hand over most of their rivals due to their European commitments.

The Latics, who host Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, are currently priced at 11/2 to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
