According to an exclusive report to the Daily Mail, Wigan have “vowed to repel Tottenham’s efforts†to sign Emile Heskey for an alleged £10million.
It is thought that Spurs have turned their attentions towards the England striker in a bid to find a like replacement for wantaway striker Dimitar Berbatov.
Berbatov is widely expected to join Manchester United for a fee ranging between £25 to £30million and Spurs boss Juande Ramos is keen to replace him with a 6ft-plus centre forward.
After failing to garner any points in their first two games, the pressure has mounted on Ramos to deliver. Moreover, a date with a deadly-looking Chelsea squad at Stamford Bridge awaits this weekend and so acquiring a striker this week looks to be imperative if Spurs are to get something from that outing.
With Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz agreeing a new four-year deal at Ewood Park, Ramos is believed to now be eying Wigan’s Heskey but a source at the JJB Stadium has confirmed to Sportsmail that the Latics would rebuff any approach for their talisman.
The source added that Wigan’s Barclays Premier League survival would hinge on Heskey remaining part of Steve Bruce’s squad.
