Having been already handed a three-match ban, Antolin Alcaraz could be set for further punishment for spitting at Wolves’ Richard Stearman.
The 29-year-old Wigan defender was caught spitting during his side’s 3-1 English Premier League defeat on Saturday, and was promptly sanctioned by the English FA after referee Lee Probert missed the incident.
Although he accepted the initial suspension, it seems that the Paraguay international could face additional sanctions, with Wigan revealing on Wednesday that the matter would be taken to an internal investigation.
A statement on the club’s official website read: “Wigan Athletic have announced that Paraguay defender Antolin Alcaraz has accepted the FA’s misconduct charge for spitting following the incident at the end of Sunday’s Barclays Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which carries an automatic three-match ban.”
“The matter will be treated with utmost seriousness and be dealt with internally, according to the club’s code of conduct.”
