Côte d’Ivoire international striker Wilfried Bony has signed a one-year contract extension at the Liberty Stadium.
Bony, now tied to the Swans until the summer of 2018, is slowly but surely regaining top form.
After failing to score in his first six English Premier League appearances of 2014/15, the Ivorian has bagged four goals in his last five league matches.
Despite summer reports linking him with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, Bony has now agreed a one-year to his contract with the Swans.
Manager Garry Monk is delighted the player has extended his deal with the club, and rightly so.
“It’s great news for the club,” Monk said on the club’s official website. “I’ve spoken a lot about what Bony has brought to the club not just on the pitch but off it as well.
“These types of players are ones that we do our best to keep at the club for a long time. But it’s also important that we see commitment from that player towards the club, his team-mates and the fans.
“When we talk about the future and progressing it can’t be just talk – there has to be commitment from myself, the players and the club.
“Bony has bought into the direction the club wants to take. He is a big player for us so to tie down his future is fantastic news for everyone connected with the club.
“I’m sure the fans will be more than happy with the extension. For them to see a big player, who they have a lot of affection for, tie down his future with their club is something they will thoroughly enjoy hearing about.”
Bony is currently on African Cup of Nations duty with Côte d’Ivoire.
Ribery warns Reus over potential Bayern move
Former France international midfielder Franck Ribery has told Marco Reus he should “watch out” for him should he decide to leave Dortmund for Munich.
Next summer, Reus will be free to join Bayern for €25 million, per a clause in his current contract. A possible move seems more likely by the day, especially when considering Dortmund’s struggles in the Bundesliga this season.
Several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, are also reportedly keen on the Germany international, and understandably so. However, Bayern are still the favourites to land Reus.
“He’s a great player, but I’m going to be here for a while yet, even if I will be 32,” the Frenchman toldKicker magazine.
“I’m still an important player and you’ve always got to watch out for me.”
Reus has tallied five goals and three assists in 10 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund this season.
