At this summer’s World Cup Germany were one of the most attractive teams to watch.
One of the young players who contributed to this style significantly was playmaker Mesut Ozil.
The 21 year-old is now wanted by most of the top sides in Europe.
Contract
This summer would be the ideal time for the Werder Bremen star to make a switch. His contract with his current club expires in 12 months and Werder know they have to sell the youngster now or risk losing him for absolutely nothing next summer.
Werder really don’t really have a choice but to let the star leave. They are not a club who are in a good enough financial position to let a player of his value to leave on a Bosman next summer.
Interest
Ozil has admitted that there are a number of clubs he would be interested in joining. He told the Daily Star Sunday: “There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for,”
He also admitted attention from Premier League clubs is hard to ignore saying: “Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them.
“When you are looking at moving clubs it’s impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea.”
La Liga
Ozil also admits a move to La Liga would also be an option. He talked about Real Madrid and Barcelona being of huge interest, if he did move on. He has the talent and the footballing brain to make it in the Spanish top flight.
Suited
However I’d say his style is best suited to the Premier League. His technical ability is superb and he is a clever player. I don’t think he would be out of place in any of the top sides in Spain or England. Manchester United and Chelsea would benefit from the youngster in their side.
Both clubs could use a player of Ozil’s ability in their midfield. Last season United arguably lacked a bit of creative flair at times and it cost them the league title. Ozil would be an ideal player, at a reasonable price.
Chelsea is currently lacking in midfield options after Joe Cole and Michael Ballack left the club on free transfers. Ozil is the sort of player who would fill the creative void left by Joe Cole and Ozil has the potential to be far better than the England international.
Bargain
Mesut Ozil is one of the most promising young players in world football. He had a big reputation before the World Cup and it was only enhanced by his performances in South Africa. At £12million to me he would prove a bargain for whoever signs him.
The transfer market is crazy at the moment. I mean Aston Villa quoting £30 million for an average midfielder like James Milner is a joke. Ozil is a far better player and much cheaper. If I was Roberto Mancini I would be trying to sign Ozil for £12million and not Milner for £30million. However Manchester City doesn’t currently operate on the same planet as everybody else.
Who will sign German sensation Mesut Ozil?
