Reports coming out of Spain claim that Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is set to leave Spain this summer and return to the Premier League.
The Portuguese tactician has never hidden his desire to one day return to England and if those reports are to be believed that return could be this summer.
Problems
Despite Los Blancos being top of the La Liga table Mourinho has encountered problems in Madrid. Real Madrid as a club have a certain way of doing things and don’t like to change for anybody, including Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho also has a set way of doing things and he is unlikely to change his ways. Unfortunately the two do not seem to be on the same page. The Real hierarchy is believed to be unhappy at the way Mourinho conducts himself.
The former-Chelsea boss has also fell out with a number of his players. There is believed to be a split in the dressing room, which can only be bad for morale. Despite a believed problem in the dressing room the team has been superbly consistent in recent weeks and continue to win games.
Winner
Real Madrid could win the La Liga and Champions league titles and Jose Mourinho could still leave at the end of the season. Real have a history of sacking bosses, even when they have won trophies. Real bosses have to fit in perfectly with the ethos of the club or they leave.
Mourinho has ruffed feathers since he has joined Los Blancos and the people behind the scenes at the Bernabeu don’t seem to like it.
Mourinho also left Inter to join Real just after claiming the treble of Serie A, Champions League and Coppa Italia. The 49 year-old has no problem with leaving a team on a high and will only stay at a club if he is happy.
He currently seems unhappy with the Bernabeu fans after they recently booed him. These boos were because he fielded what the fans thought was a defensive line-up against Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey.
England
The unrest at Real Madrid has fuelled rumours that Mourinho is set to return to the Premier League. The big question is which club would he join? Mourinho will only join one of the biggest clubs in England and that limits his options.
The current Premier League favourites for Mourinho to join are Chelsea. Chelsea haven’t exactly set the world alight this season under rookie boss Andre Villas-Boas.
However it seems that Mourinho’s protégé will be given time to change the clubs fortunes. Villas-Boas was part of Mourinho’s backroom staff during his time at Stamford Bridge and is a highly-rated young boss. I can’t see Villas-Boas leaving the Blues anytime soon.
Mourinho has been linked with Manchester City in the past. A summer move to City looks unlikely though as City boss Roberto Mancini has done a decent job at the Etihad Stadium and could claim the Premier League title in May.
Mourinho has long been considered the heir apparent to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but the Scot is unlikely to leave Old Trafford this summer. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger’s future has also been in doubt. However I can’t see the Frenchman leaving the Emirates this summer.
Unlikely
I really can’t see a viable destination in the Premier League for Jose Mourinho this summer. I have no doubt that one day the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ will return to the English top flight but I would be very surprised if it was this summer.
Will Jose Mourinho be heading back to the Premier League this summer?
