Leroy Sane is the next big thing in German football.

The 19-year-old Schalke attacking midfielder has taken Bundesliga by storm with four goals and as many assists in 17 Bundesliga matches this season.

Sane also added four appearances, a goal and an assist in UEFA Europa League and his general contribution and performances have been nothing short of impressive throughout the campaign.

As one of the latest Bundesliga’s emerging stars, Leroy Sane has caught the eyes of Europe’s top clubs, who are ready to step up their interest in signing the creative midfielder.

Sane made his debut for the Bundesliga club back in 2014 and went on to win his first cap for Germany against France at the Stade de France in November 2015. Currently on a winter training camp in Orlando with his club Schalke, Leroy Sane is preparing for a turbulent winter that could see him move to the Premier League.

Ready for a move abroad?

Emerging reports in Germany this week claim that Manchester City are sitting in the front row in the race for Leroy Sane, who is contracted to Schalke until 2019, and that the Citizens are readying a huge bid in order to land the explosive midfielder.

German media outlet Bild even claimed that Sane could become the most expensive German player ever if City go on with their proposed offer reportedly in excess of £40 million pounds. Citizen’s bid could potentially usurp the £42 million that Arsenal spent on Mesut Ozil back in 2013.

Placing such a huge price tag upon a young man’s back can be detrimental to Leroy Sane’s career in a delicate formative stage, but his father is feeling ‘proud’ his son is attracting interest from one of the top club on the continent.

Souleymane Sane, who is a former Senegal international, reckons that his son will make good decision for his own future.

“Of course I am proud that my son is attracting attention with his good performances. I don’t want to say anything as Leroy is a grown man, old enough to decide on his own. He knows that I will always have his back”, Sane told Bild.

Schalke unwilling to sell

Responding to father’s statements, the Bundesliga club are adamant that Sane will be staying in Germany past January, adding that there has not been any official offers yet and that ‘Sane wants to stay’.

Schalke are currently sitting in sixth place, only two points away from Borussia Monchengladbach currently holding the crucial Champions League hot spot and the club are willing to hold on to their key player in order to boost their chances of securing the European football. Schalke stand at 5/2 odds to reach the Europe’s elite competition by the end of the current campaign.

In addition, the Bundesliga outfit have decided to add more competition to midfield places as they have signed Dynamo Kiev attacking midfielder Younes Belhanda on a six-month loan. The 25-year-old Morocco international has helped Dynamo reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 16 year and there is no doubt he will be a good addition to the squad.

Record-breaking deal for Leroy Sane would be hard to turn down and Schalke are well aware of the potential prospect of making a huge amount of money in January transfer window.

Experienced enough to take any potential developments into account regarding Sane’s possible move away from Bundesliga, Schalke have in this way also used Belhanda’s transfer as the possible replacement for the departure of their most prized possession.

Sane himself will most certainly be tempted to move to Etihad and get the chance to test his skills in one of the most competitive football competition in Europe.

Will Sane move to City and become Germany’s most expensive player?
