Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner’s future at the club is in doubt.
The Danish international has struggled to cement a regular first team spot at the Emirates Stadium in recent seasons and it now looks as if he may move on this summer.
Doubts
The question is will he ever become a world-class striker? He has struggled to turn potential into actual ability over the past few seasons. He doesn’t seem to have progressed in the last couple of years at all.
He is one of the crop of youngsters that haven‘t quite developed into the players that that boss Arsene Wenger thought they would. Unfortunately like some of his fellow Gunners Nicklas Bendtner still has a lot to prove.
Confident
Bendtner is his own biggest fan. He has confidence in his ability but it seems that he might think he has more ability than he actual has. He believes that one day he will be a world star.
The 23 year-old has got time on his side but if he is to become a world star he must start regularly next season. Whether that be at Arsenal or elsewhere. He must let his football do the talking next season.
Instead of hyping himself up so much that he struggles to live up to his own expected standards. He needs to put his ego to one side and just play.
Starter
If he does move this summer then he has to move to a club were he will get regular action. It’s no good him sitting on the Arsenal bench for another season. He needs to go where he might actually play every game.
The fact that he has been a bit-part player at Arsenal the last couple of seasons has hampered his development. Playing games will help his development as a player. Warming the bench at the Emirates won’t.
Arsenal
Bendtner is a player with potential but isn’t quite good enough to be top class. While Wenger is waiting for these players to develop the Gunners are falling further behind their rivals.
The Frenchman is admired throughout Europe for his philosophy on football but in recent years has became blind to his own teams faults. His stubbornness has cost the club trophies. And now without a trophy for six years Gunners fans are getting inpatient.
Move
Some Arsenal fans are suggesting that Arsenal have a cull of first team players this summer with Bendtner leading that cull. A move looks likely with some top teams believed to be interested in signing the Danish international.
The likes of Italian giants Inter and German club Bayern have been linked with moves for the out of favour striker. If he had a chance to play for one of those clubs I’m sure he would jump at the chance.
However if he did move to one of those major clubs he would have an even bigger problem getting first team football. For the sake of his career he needs to maybe join a smaller club. He can then gain some experience and become a better player.
Then maybe when he has developed into a better player he can sign for another European giant and proves he has what it takes to be a world star.
At this point in his career though he can’t afford not to be playing. His next move will be the key to whether he becomes a top player or a player who will never fulfil his potential.
Can Nicklas Bendtner become a world-class striker?
