Sky Sports pundit Neil McCann believes Real Madrid will look to sign in-form Manchester Untied goalkeeper David de Gea when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
The Spain international, whose current contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2016, has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital in recent times.
Following Iker Casillas’ poor performance against Schalke in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, reports linking De Gea with Real Madrid have resurfaced, and understandably so.
“I think that will happen,” McCann told Sky Sports News HQ.
“I think De Gea would like to go to Real Madrid. I don’t think he’ll be best pleased by how things are going at Manchester United.
“Casillas is a top-class goalkeeper. We’ve seen him for generations playing at the very top and he’s won everything there is to win in the game.
“But he’s making mistakes that top goalkeepers don’t make. There are little saves that normally he pushes wide and doesn’t give any opportunities to strikers to follow up – but he is palming them into areas where strikers are sniffing around and scoring goals past him.
“I think there just seems to be a lack of confidence in his game at the minute and every sportsman needs confidence, but not only has he been affected, but the back four are conceding goals and the midfield looks as if they are not playing as a unit with the back four.
“It’s a team thing, but he has been highlighted. If a goalkeeper makes mistakes it’s in the back of the net and I don’t think it will be long before Real Madrid make a serious bid for De Gea.”
De Gea, 24, has kept nine clean-sheets in 28 English Premier League starts for United in 2014/15.
Nastasic joins Schalke on four-year contract
FC Schalke 04 have completed the signing of Serbia international defender Matija Nastasic from Manchester City on a four-year deal.
Nastacic, 21, joined Schalke on a season-long loan deal in mid-January, but the Bundesliga club have now triggered clause in the player’s contract to make the switch permanent.
“I am proud and happy that I remain at Schalke,” Nastasic told the club’s official website.
“The team did very well taking me from day one, I was immediately a part of the team.
“In the future I would like to help us to achieve our goals as a team.”
Since arriving in Gelsenkirchen, Nastacic has started nine matches in all competitions for the Royal Blues.
