Will Sergio Aguero/Gonzalo Higuain swap happen this summer?

Reports emanating from Spain are suggesting that Real Madrid are set to swoop for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

The deal could involve unsettled Real striker Gonzalo Higuain, his Argentinian international teammate.

Unsettled

Gonzalo Higuain is unsettled in Madrid because he is not always a starter at the Bernabeu.

The 23 year-old striker has at times rotated with French striker Karim Benzema. Higuain has got fed up of not starting games on a regular basis and is looking for a summer move.

Real don’t want to lose the striker but the French-born striker seems to have his heart set on a move away from the Spanish capital. I’m sure a move to the Premier League would be appealing to the striker.

The Spanish media have also revealed that Aguero isn’t completely happy with life in Manchester and would welcome a return to Spain, and Madrid especially. A swap deal would prove ideal for both players surely?

Goals

Both players have been amongst the goals this season. City striker Sergio Aguero has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season and has been one of the key players for City’s Premier League title challenge.

Gonzalo Higuain has managed to find the net 20 times in La Liga this season. An impressive total considering he hasn’t really been a regular starter. The striker actually has a better goals to minutes on the pitch ratio in La Liga than the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Profile

Both players are just 23 years of age and have time to get even better. Sergio Aguero is considered a more high-profile player than Higuain. Higuain has unfortunately had to live in the shadow of Ronaldo and even at times Benzema.

Higuain deserves better than to play second fiddle to other players. He is a top player who would probably be regarded as a star player at any other club. At Real Madrid though he is just one star amongst a galaxy of stars.

I do believe that a move would be a big boost for his career. If he stays at Real Madrid he will never fulfil his potential.

Rated

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini won’t want to lose Sergio Aguero, as he is City’s top scorer this season. However, Mancini is believed to be a really big fan of Higuain.

If Aguero is unsettled then City may be forced to let the former-Atletico striker leave. Higuain would be a great replacement for his compatriot.

Rival

The fact that Aguero has previously represented Atletico Madrid doesn’t seem to bother the player or his prospective employers. Lots of fans believe that Aguero should show loyalty to Atletico. However Aguero isn’t a native of Madrid and shouldn’t have to show any loyalty to his former-employers.

Speculation

These reports are just rumours at the moment but the deal would make sense. If reports are to be believed both players are looking for a move and both players are talented. Although the deal makes sense it doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen.

Real boss Jose Mourinho has denied that the deal will happen but with Mourinho’s future in doubt you just never know what will happen.

It’s set to be a busy summer at both Real Madrid and Manchester City. Whether this deal happens remains to be seen but it really would be an interesting one if it does go ahead.
